I had a c sec delivery and missed out providing colostrum to.my baby initially, does it affect baby's health anyway?
Thank you for your query, our expert will respond soon.
Dear Mom
Colostrum secretions are seen immediately after birth till the completion of 72 hours post delivery. If you have managed to breastfeed even on the second or third day the baby will have received the colostrum.
Colostrum contains maximum antibodies for the baby. If you are continuing to breastfeed now then your baby will receive these benefits for sure.
My kid is 6 weeks old .. sometimes it vomits post feeding. Sometimes it will be fine milk out or sometimes it will be curdy .. why is it so ?
Thank you for your query, our expert will respond soon.
Dear Mom
This is normal regurgitation of milk.
Curdy milk indicates that the regurgitated milk was partially digested. This is normal and there's no reason to worry.
Hello mam. My baby is 2 month can I do breastfeed my baby in sleeping position sometimes .?
But I have heard it causes ear infection and lungs observed milk.
Please tell
Thank you for your query, our expert will respond soon.
Hi Aastha
its completely safe to breastfeeding in the sleeping position where you are lying down on your side. Logically and scientifically speaking, in all breastfeeding positions, the baby is always in the sleeping position and its the mother's position which changes. This will not cause ear infections or milk going into lungs.
Please take care to see that the baby is positioned well on the side and the breast is supported well either by your hand or by a nursing bra so the breast does not fall on the baby's face.
How do u know it's enough for baby? On exclusive bf. Also, when u feed on demand, how many minimum feeds should be given? Because once baby sleeps, baby doesn't wake up to feed also, so for 4-5hrs no feeding occurs
Thank you for your query, our expert will respond soon.
Dear Bhumi
the 2 best indicators to knowing that your breast milk supply is sufficient for the baby are the baby's urine output and weight gain. If your baby is more than 1-2 weeks old then your baby should pass urine atleast 6-8 times in 24 hours and you should see weight gain at each pediatric visit. Babies who are breastfeeding well ideally gain about 20-30g per day and can sometimes gain more.
If your baby is almost a month old, then the baby can sleep undisturbed for a stretch of 4-5 hours and there's no need to wake up the baby for a breastfeed. This also means that if your baby is almost a month old you should be breastfeeding on on demand.
is it true that mother needs to eat cold or not so hot food who is breastfeeding else baby’s poop will be smelly.
Thank you for your query, our expert will respond soon.
Dear Mom
No this is not true. Mother can eat foods at usual temperatures like any other individual.
Milk production on my left breast is more compared to the right. is it normal ?
Thank you for your query, our expert will respond soon.
Dear Jyothi
Yes its normal for most mothers to produce more in one breast compared to the other. if its possible try to get the baby to feed slightly more on the breast where you feel the supply is less as this will help to increase the milk supply in that breast. However while doing so, please ensure that you dont end up feeding less on the right breast.
Take care
